Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose one-on-one training instead of group classes?
One-on-one training is tailored to your dog’s unique needs, including their skill level, breed-specific traits, and comfort with various distractions. Some dogs, can become overwhelmed in group settings, which can lead to frustration and strain your relationship with them. Individual sessions focus on building confidence and reducing anxiety, ensuring a positive experience for both you and your dog.

What techniques do you use?
I use positive reinforcement methods, which have been scientifically shown to provide lasting benefits. These methods help build your dog’s confidence, giving you practical tools for any situation without resorting to punishment. I don’t judge any prior methods you may have used, and I’m here to offer compassionate, humane alternatives.

Why do I have to pay for a package upfront?
Previously, I provided one-time consultations, spending a few hours with clients and delivering a report with advice to improve their dog’s behaviour. However, I realised that meaningful progress requires ongoing support. Now, during the initial consultation, I assess the situation and recommend the number of sessions needed for real results. By committing to a package upfront, you show dedication to the process, and in return, I provide comprehensive support, including written materials, videos, recommended reading, and availability for quick questions via WhatsApp between sessions, ensuring you’re guided every step of the way.

What options do you offer if I’m on a budget?
I provide flexible options, including a mix of online consultations, courses, and limited one-on-one sessions to fit various budgets. This is something we can discuss in your free 10-15 minute consultation.

Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes, gift vouchers are available, with the puppy package being our most popular. Other packages are also available upon request.

What experience do you have with rescue dogs?
I have extensive experience helping rescue dogs adjust to new homes and environments, and I’m a recommended trainer for the Mayhew Dog Charity.

Do you have dogs of your own?
Yes, I’m blessed with two amazing dogs. Maggie, my working Cocker Spaniel, is a gentle, loving soul who has taught me so much about high-drive dogs. Then there’s Frankie, my wonderful Standard Show Dachshund, who, like many in his breed, can be a bit needy and has deepened my understanding and empathy for those tackling separation anxiety. You can see more of their adventures on my Instagram, @sarah_thewagologist.
